Ohana Massage Therapy, LLC is a woman-owned small business in Overland Park, Kansas. I got my first look into massage therapy in high school at a career day.
Massage helps with relaxation by stimulating the body’s parasympathetic nervous system, putting you in a rest and digest state. The physical manipulation of muscles during a massage increases blood flow, releases tension, and promotes the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good hormones. Additionally, the focused, soothing touch of a massage can create a meditative experience, allowing the mind to unwind and encouraging relaxation.
Massage is an effective method for pain relief due to its ability to reduce muscle tension, increase circulation, and promote the release of endorphins, which are natural painkillers. By physically manipulating specific muscle groups, massage helps to break up adhesions and scar tissue, which can be sources of chronic pain. The increased blood flow to affected areas enhances the delivery of oxygen and nutrients, promoting healing. Additionally, massage can stimulate the release of serotonin and dopamine, which further alleviate pain and improve mood. This addresses both the physical and emotional components of pain, making it a comprehensive treatment option.
Massage is beneficial for anxiety and depression by promoting relaxation and reducing stress hormones like cortisol while increasing levels of serotonin and dopamine. The soothing touch of massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system, fostering a sense of calm and well-being. This physical contact can also reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, common in depression, by providing comforting human connection. Furthermore, the reduction in muscle tension and improvement in sleep quality often experienced after a massage contribute to better overall mental health. Through these combined effects, massage can significantly alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, offering a natural and holistic approach to mental well-being.
Ohana Massage Therapy, LLC is a woman-owned small business in Overland Park, Kansas. I got my first look into massage therapy in high school at a career day. It wasn’t until a little more than a decade later when I received a massage, that I realized how much I was being pulled into the field. I graduated with my massage therapy associates degree in 2019. In 2020 I began practicing and the more people I massaged and was able to help, the more I enjoyed my new career. I love what I do and decided it was time to bring my skills to my own office, where I can work with my clients to help them achieve their goals of relaxation and pain relief. I’m excited to work with you on your wellness journey!
A relaxation massage is a therapeutic technique designed to help individuals reduce stress and tension. This type of massage involves the use of smooth, gentle, and flowing strokes, combined with light to medium pressure, to ease muscle tension, improve circulation, and enhance relaxation. The goal is not to address deep-seated muscle issues but to create a calming experience that allows the recipient to unwind and release built-up stress.
Deep tissue massage is a therapeutic technique focused on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially beneficial for individuals with chronic pain and muscle tension. This type of massage involves the use of slow, deliberate strokes and deep pressure to target the inner layers of muscles and fascia. The therapist may use their fingers, thumbs, elbows, and forearms to apply intense pressure, breaking down adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) and promoting better circulation and muscle function. While it can be more intense than other forms of massage, it can still be done with light to medium pressure.
Prenatal massage is a specialized form of massage therapy designed for pregnant women. This type of massage aims to alleviate common discomforts such as back pain, leg cramps, and stress. Prenatal massage uses gentle techniques and avoids certain areas that might induce discomfort or pose risks to the mother and baby. The primary goals of prenatal massage are to enhance relaxation, reduce stress, relieve muscle tension, and promote overall well-being during pregnancy.
Hot stone massage involves the use of smooth, heated stones. The heat from the stones penetrates deep into the muscles, promoting relaxation, improving circulation, and easing muscle tension. This type of massage can be beneficial for those experiencing stress, muscle pain, or stiffness, as it helps to loosen tight muscles.
Cupping is an ancient therapeutic practice. This technique is believed to enhance circulation, relieve muscle tension, and promote healing by drawing blood to the surface and encouraging lymphatic flow. The suction can also help to loosen muscles, calm the nervous system, and release knots and adhesions in the connective tissue. Cupping can often leave circular marks on the skin that fade after a few days. It is favored by athletes and individuals seeking relief from chronic pain, inflammation, or stress.
A foot scrub has several benefits. It helps to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, leaving your feet smooth, and can help improve circulation, which can reduce foot fatigue. It also helps to prevent foot odor by removing dirt and bacteria, and can be a relaxing part of your self-care routine, reducing stress and making you feel pampered.
Incredibly knowledgeable about her work and knows just the right areas to work. Won’t be seeing another massage therapist until she retires.
I recently got a massage from here and I’ve never been more relaxed. The massage therapist was very personable and a fun personality.
